Hi guys some lovely soul bought me a 1080ti for my birthday so it's time for me to replace my existing i5 mobo and cpu with something that can do the MSI gaming X justice.

System is primarily for games with office work.

Currently OC'ed at 5.2ghz with a swiftech 240x AIO and not looking to replace that, dark power pro 800 psu or case (will be getting the NSGO S0 when the retail model is released for fully silent rig)

Budget 750£

My current thinking is:

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £753.47
(includes shipping: £10.50)

Do I really need the pre-binned chip? Is that mobo good enough? or should I abandon team intel entirely and give Ryzen a crack?

Shall I wait for a couple of months and see what the X series does to prices?

OR shall I just go in at i5 level and look to upgrade in 6/12 months?

Im in the exact same boat. Recently got a 1080ti to go alongside my 2500k.
My upgrade will be going ahead in the next few weeks, I decided on a Ryzen 1700 and Gigabyte Gaming K5 x370 board.

Have no need for the watercooler... saves 100 quid off the price...... tempting.

It seems all over the place on gaming comparisons. I think the deal breaker will be slot life cycle?

Well that's one thing that AM4 crushes Intel. AM4 has been promised 4 years of support and upgrades.

The Intel socket is probably already dead.

@Mr Carrot

Ryzen version

1700 to save cash but should be able to hit 4ghz
16GB 3400+ which should be supported very soon.

again fast 16GB ram!!!

Pre binned chips are a con. Most 7700ks will do 4.8 or 5.0 GHz which is pretty damn fast.

My 6700k at 4.6ghz is blazing fast and that cost £300 new.

I was going to go for it to not have to bother delidding and relidding the thing so it doesn't burn my house down with the crap TIM they put on it! Going to be sticking this setup in this eventually so need it to be run as cool as poss:
