cheers looks good are is that processor quick ? or is it worth going for somthing like say the e6750 or e6550?

All the conroes clock to at least around 3 GHz, including the e2160. With the e6550 and e6750, you're paying intel to do the clocking for you.

It's quick enough for what she wants it for, good enough for SIMS / other light gaming and quick enough to not slow down an OS.

[EDIT]: I'd go with the suggested graphics card from melbourne instead of the 8600 GT also, you loose DX10 (oh noes!) but the X1950 is more powerful and exactly the same price.

short answer: no

long answer: no, you've overspent on the cpu, and under spent on the GPU and PSU.

It'll do letters/internet/very old games, but then so will a £299 laptop, and that comes with a free screen :D

I'm not sure if the E6550 is a good choice in general, and for the graphics, you could get better for the money.

hey there, i had a look at the spec you had and tried to get more value for money.
the Cpu is way better for exactly the same price, and i changed the PSU because asaka have almost silent psu's and with that spec i don't think you'll need over 400w at all.
I added the 8600 gt because it has GDDR2 instead of DDR memory which will run your games a lot faster and smoother and performs better than the 8500 GT.
the rest is just what i think will work well
by the way you can add a home vista o/s instead of your windows xp home:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SW-034-MS&groupid=33&catid=20&subcat=
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=OS-001-MS&groupid=33&catid=20&subcat=
they are both the same price, you can choose whichever you like.
good luck! ;)
