Hey guys

I'm looking to build my own system so i wondering could one of you spec a system for me ?

I would need a SSD drive for windows boot and a storage drive for video files etc

I need around 2-4gb ram

Enough processing power.

I plan to Do graphics design on there , Multi-tasking , Streaming , Little bit of gaming if possible.

So if someone could spec a system for me based on the above preferences i would be very grateful. Budget is £400 (Not much but i might sell my laptop for extra funds.)

Thanks
Dan

Well i dont really need an ssd, It was just for a fast boot.

I know its a tight budget and i appologize for this.

How about 2 HDD's in RAID 0 to replace the ssd?

Dan

If you want any kind of performance for £400 forget about SSD my friend, and tbh i wouldn't worry about raiding 2 HDDs either as its still gonna eat nearly a quarter of your budget. Honestly mate its all very overrated anyway, who cares if windows loads 10 seconds faster, for £400 you could get a solid CPU, GPU, mobo and 4gb of ram into a nice lil build. Although if you want any gravy on your potatoes (monitor and other peripherals) your prolly gonna want more than £400 unless you plan on VERY light gaming, ie minesweeper :P

Lol i have a monitor and razor keyboard and steelseries mouse.

So just a system.

Click for stability . . . 12 hour "Blend"

Get the system ordered, built and "tweaked" using the onboard IGP for starters . . . that should take a week or two and give you some extra time to save up for a dedicated GPU . . . new Radeons out soon meaning lots of used uBer cards being sold off for bargain prices . . . a sweet PCI-E 2.0 x16 graphics card will drop in nicely to the above system! :)

You don't really "need" an SSD and you don't really "need" RAID-0 do you? . . . . I'm sure you "want" them though! ;) . . . Are Windows boot times really a "justification" for you to spend real money £££ . . . a nice phat 1TB HDD will serve you well for the moment . . . . bide your time for the SSD, resist the hype until the day comes when the prices for the "Hyped" technology become more affordable . . . until then get saving for your GPU and enjoy your super Bang-for-Buck PC!

Thanks for that !! Really helped.

If i wanted to get a little more from the processer could i overclock?

I'm a noob when it comes to the tech part of computer's so on this build i will be making a thread and updating it on OCUK :)

Well I would say you should wait till you got the system up, running & "tweaked" and save some more money £££ before you cast your beady eye on GPUs . . . obviously your money will go further if you find a nice used GPU . . . If I was buying today and if buying new (which I wouldn't) then this card looks like the best value-for-money!

Do you have msn or a different messenger so i can speak to you instead of posting all the time lol

Thanks for all your help.

I have decided to get a pc more near christmas and sell my laptop.

is it worth an i5 for a bit extra buck or should i stick with quad core?.

Da

Ok i've now increased budget to £500 + Extra for a Gfx card (£100 -200)

Dont know if this complicates things but i need to get the best for my money so i dont have to upgrade everything for 1-3 years

Get posting :)

Thanks for the help though so far guys , i'm glad i joined this forum
