Hi all.

I'm interested in getting something like Acer Aspire ICONIA TAB A500, 501 or even the Acer Aspire ICONIA TAB W500.

I'm not up to scratch with these tablets so I don't really know which one is the best to consider buying.

I would be using the tablet for Uni so a lot of word processing so external docking would be ideal, it needs to be pretty quick and able to multi task easily. Games are not a main interest only a bonus. However it needs to be able to run fairly intensive analysis / performance recording software... I'd also like to be able to edit & record videos comfortably.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Imo, a tablet is not really ideal for what you want it to do are although the acer are well speced you pay for it.

Or for a similar price you could get a decent laptop, hunt around and you can find an Acer Aspire 4810TZG for under £400 new (not refurbed) and this is a 14" very slim and light timeline series notebook with 8 hour battery life and useful performance esp when compared to a tablet. You could even get the Timeline X intel i3 for a bit more outlay.

Asus Transformer.

if i bought into the tablet hype, this is the one I'd buy, very well designed and clever use of the keyboard, it's not a flimsy attachment that's too weak to hold up the display, it's a real keyboard that also serves as an expanded battery.

WIN

I'm confused... care to expand? What's the software and what type of videos do you want to edit?

(Sounds like you want a sandybridge/fusion laptop)

The Asus Transformer would satisfy all of your needs stated in the OP.

It is bundled with Polaris Office, allowing you to easily created word documents, also you can get Evernote which is a great handy little Note taking application, and you register an account so your notes are shared between all of your android devices, and i think your computer too.

Its in its early days but its fabulous, the support is great and the tablet has been rated the best (current) android honeycomb tablet? So erm, ye :) Get this, and if you do go for the keyboard bundle option, the dock is around £50 within the bundle, or £90-£100 if you buy seperately, so its a great investment.

Handy little pieces are coming out reasonably soon i should think for it, like a stand alone desk mount so you can have it placed securely on your desk with USB HUB and charging, also sleeves and cases will be more widely available and designed to fit the Transformer before september i should think.

But if you are waiting until then, you might want to look into the Kal-El platform which is the Quadcore Tegra chips by Nvidia, which should be getting released later this year, Q3/Q4 :).
