Fairly ignorant towards the tablet market. Strictly browsing, watching videos, etc, but of course want it to be quick and responsive. Is the Nexus 7 my best option for this price range?

Nexus 9,is newer and cheaper.

It's awful though. I mean it's fine, and can be responsive. But then it'll just die and be slow as crap, normally requiring a reboot. The bleed is also awful. I'd probably pick up some Chinese tablet than a nexus 9 if I was buying now.

I'm waiting for the Nvidia Shield K1 to come back into stock - £150 and seems to get rave reviews.

you have not said much about what size screen, operating system etc but personally I find android tablets annoying for surfing internet and prefer full windows tablet pc.

you can fin dell venue 11 pro (Intel atom) version on certain auction sites or dell outlet for £100-£150, don't buy the i3,i5 or i7 version because battery only last 4 hours & fan noise, unless you need the extra processing power, the atom version lasts about 6-8hours which is great. I have been using the 8"venue 8 pro for a long while now and its fantastic. If you want something a little more powerful processor wise and more modern then there is the newer pro11 with the new Intel M mobile CPU that have no fan and slimmer and lighter than the old atom version but battery life is not as good but can be bought for apps £200 refurbished. If you don't mind 11" tablet and don't need android then they are really good tablets.

if you need android then ill let someone else recommend, I have not kept up with android tablets for a while.
