Well as the title says, going to look for a Tv this weekend, going to be buying on a buy now pay later scheme with my student loan, so what I am after is a 40inch, main use is going to be use for the 360 and PS3 gaming and Blu Ray, and the odd rare occasion of watchinh freeview but I got the box for that with my current crt tv.

Now the ones I have picked are:

Samsung LE40M86BD LCD

Sony KDL40V3000 LCD

Samsung LE40A65*A LCD

As far as my research have gone looking on net and at my work place and on AV forums, LCd better for gaming other I would have went for the Pioneer Kuro plasma but can't find it cheap anywhere so wonder what yall views on these, though the latter on the list is pretty new

I have the Samsung LE40M86BD. Its good for gaming, but mine has a little ghosting in Blu-Ray movies. Its really a hit and miss when it comes to the M86, some are fine, some aren't.

A lot will recommend in the Sony V3000 too. So if i where you, i would go with it. No where near as much ghosting issues with the V3000 as there are with the M86 (according to the posts on Avforums).

Well you said you do a lot of gaming so LCD would be the obvious choice, but if you are a serious movie fan (dvd and blu-ray) then an LCD really isn't the wisest choice, as the PQ will be worse and they handle motion worse than plasmas.

What's your budget, as the Kuro can be picked up for a touch under £1200 now??? Also the panasonic PZ series is still an excellent tv at a great price now the newer range is filtering into the market.

E-mail in trust if you need to ask anything ;)

Dragon sounds like your in a similar situation to me, although I have decided agaisnt spending £1200 and look likely to buy the panny plasma 42px80 or a cheap 42px70 is i can source one.

The Kuro's is fantastic, the panny pz85 is full hd and is very close to the kuro for PQ so might wanna consider that too.

I would say my heart lies in blu-ray and films, but I still wanna be able to play games for a few hours on a saturday afternoon.

Maybe Ad can asure us the plasma screens wont get screen burn or image retention after say 3 hours of gaming?

if it doesn't then kuro it is! >.<'

It doesn't  :D

Sorry to be the bringer of bad wallet news, but I haven't even seen an ounce of image retention yet on my kuro. I didn't start playing COD4 until my tv had a good 120+ hours on it, and I have had 4+ hour gaming sessions and I still haven't seen any retention. THese days screen burn will only happen in extreme cases of leaving a tv on for e.g. movie pause all night, sky news, COD4 for 10+ hours straight. THose are mostly guesses, but after an epic all day saturday hungova COD4 session I still haven't seen retention.

I have heard reports of PX80 retention after big big sessions, I mean non-stop 2-3 hours, but It isn't something to really worry about, unless you are afraid of leaving games going for an all day session, or leaving it paused/on when drunken.

The only negative about the kuro is that it does have more noise than other sets. By this i mean the picture looks to have moving squads of midges (woodland flying bugs in swarms) mivng around the picture. But this noise even though I know its there doesn't affect me at all, and watching the masters golf im still marvelling at the PQ. My god those flowers look hot, and make me feel a bit more homogaysexual.

Played with the PX80, I know you can get the 37 for £612 and the 42 for £700, this from a vision and sound type place in bolton ;)

Righty o, well think I'm going with the Kuro, but what is the chance of refunding if there is bad ghosting, slugging moving etc issues?

EDIT:

It is the Pioneer Kuro PDP-4280XD right?

Im sure they will refund if you get ghosting within like the first two weeks, but its highly unlikely for a Plasma.

Yup the 4280XD. The 428 is a more expensive version that has the same PQ but allows full professional calibration, great if you have a spare £300 to get it done.

Ghosting problems are nothing to worry about, and the kuro handles motion extremely well, makes an LCD look very jerky indeed. Putting on a wildlife documentary or football on BBC is great. EVen champions league football on itv looks luvely.

I have bullied you into getting a kuro, and will help you set it up if needed, there area few things that need to be done to get the best out of it. The drive mode settings are very important, as the wrong one will make the picture judder depedning on source, and selecting the right one for presets is paramount.

I dont exactly understand how lcd's can be better than plasmas for gaming considering the pixel response time for plasmas are much lower than LCD's. Just got a Panasonic 42PZ85 coming on thursday and cannot wait. Screen Burn is a thing of the past.

I think its more about image retention. People tend to pause games and forget about them, thus leaving the door open for burn (rare these days, but can still happen) and retention.

Also, a lot of smaller sized LCD TV's are 1080p, whereas with Plasma most of the time you need to go up to 50" to get it.

Not sure on the technical benefits, but its always been the rule of thumb that LCD's are better for gaming.

Not necessarily true anymore the 42pz80 and 42pz85 are both full hd 1080p sets.
