I'm after getting a widescreen TFT (res. 1680x1050) that is suitable for gaming, graphics and movies etc....

However, later i will want to add another non widescreen monitor (res. 1280x1024) so I want the two to not only look the same, but ideally be similar heights as they will be next to each other.

What you got? :)

I've been looking at Dell..... but 16ms.... hardly seems suitable for gaming? What about the NECs?

The NEC models might be a good bet. Certainly the NEC LCD 20WGX2 is a very responsive panel for gaming, and offers some excellent colour reproduction qualitites too. I think the only weak point of that screen is the movie playback, with noise being more apparent than some other screens, and the OptiClear coating be an issue when it comes to reflections. You could consider the Viewsonic VX2025WM as well, which is a little more suited to movie playback than the NEC, while still being very good in other areas. tedmaul (from this forum) has paired his with a VX715:

which might be an idea. A lot of the 20" WS models have 17" counterparts which have the same design. You could always wait for the new Dell 2007WFP which is due soon, hopefully early May. This article might also be useful in helping you decide which 20"WS monitor is suitable for you.

there's details on the 2007WFP here including the spec. While it lists it as 16ms, I am hoping there will be some improvement to response times through the use of overdrive, something which would seem logical really with current trends. Some of the 20" WS models can be rotated, and the current Dell modesl certainly can. I don;t think the new 2007WFP has this option though sadly.
