I go through toasters every year.

One toaster, the metal things that hold the bread broke so had to cook toast on two cycles - turning bread round after one cycle
Another toaster, when the toast popped up, the lever snapped cleanly off
Another toaster the thermo control broke - black toast unless I cancelled cycle
My previous toaster it tripped electrics
My current toaster, the toaster makes the noise of toast jumping but toast stays at bottom.

Toaster needs to have slots wide enough for crumpets, English muffins, Not fussed if 2 or 4 slots.

I probably use toasters about 2-3 times a week. So not worth spending more than needed.

I find the Breville long slot toasters are best at a low price point. They can handle larger slices of bread and wider things like crumpets. They are often described as 4 slice toasters, but in reality only take 2 of the larger slices.
