Maglites are still good when you convert them to LED with added bonus of 2 to 3 days continual use out of the batteries at full power. LED converted they are a lot brighter than the smaller LED torches.

Why not just get a decent LED in the first place, saving the need to purchase two different things and then cobble them together
??????There is nothing more tactile than a 6D cell maglite. They are really nice to wield/hold, although writing that does probably make me seem a little 'odd'.
So combining that with a decent LED upgrade gives both function and form albeit at a higher cost than getting something that is as bright from another manufacturer.

Maglite 6D gets my vote, it's awesome, got one I use for camping, keep it in the boot of my car.

I can't believe that people get Maglites, thinking 'the ludicrous size and running costs of this thing are easily offset by the fact that, in the extremely unlikely event that I need to assault a burglar in my home, I would definitely choose to do so with my torch rather than a knife or a golf club'. If you'd like a weapon, you use a separate item so that you can keep the torch shone in the assailant's face, and employ other methods to deal out harm.

Got my Surefire yesterday, damn its bright for the size. Says its 65 lumens, you can actually see the beam in the dark and lights up the house over the road from me easily.
Surefire sell a 500 lumen 'M6 Guardian' special ops torch. Would be interesting to see that beast in action!

Dead on arrivalJust ordered a Fenix F2D and a handlebar mount for the bike. Seems to be a lot more powerful and better built than any of the bike lights at that price. Hope I'm impressed at that price
