I am looking to purchase a decent trolley jack that is capable of lifting my MK5 Golf GTi (Kerb Weight 1650 Kg) and some decent axle stands that let me work under the car safely.

My budget is flexible but under £100 would be ideal.

EDIT - I should just add that its just for infrequent use. At the moment I want to replace my DV valve under the engine, but in the future will probably just use it when servicing the car or taking a wheel off.

I've got an orange and black halfords trolley jack and its ok but its not got a wide enough track so you have to line everything up perfectly to feel your lifting the car safely. Also it doesn't go quite high enough. Also i have to drive my scooby onto planks of wood to get the jack underneath...

So yeah... do more research than i did :D

I do however have the 3 ton halfords axle stands and they're spot on

Halfords stands and 2 ton jack all the way TBH.

The jack is a little tall and I stuggled to get it under my wife's Leon Cupra, but all you need to do is either jack the car partially with the toolkit jack then wheel the trolley jack under, or drive up onto a few layers of wood. It's not worth spending more on a low profile jack.

DO NOT BUY FOLDING STANDS! Probably avoid the racheting stands too, and instead go for the pinned type.

Costco aluminium jacks are fine got 2 of them when I had my workshopn and they are spot on

Thanks for the SGS link, they look quite good for the price.

I am assuming anything less than a 2t jack will be useless for my car?
