Hello overclockers! My old Tritton 5.1s cheap plastic hinges have broken a while ago and have looking to replace for another set for some time.

I have a set of AKG K845BT already for music etc... and refuse to use any 3D virtual sound/ virtualization (have tried, no likey). Goold old fashioned true 5.1 for gaming suits me well.

So far these two have me interested:

Roccat Kave 5.1 Surround Sound Analog Gaming Headset

Read some reviews about the Roccat's headband hurting after use, is this much of a concern. Can it be fixed with some padding.

Lastly just came across this
Ozone Gaming Gear Strato EVO 5.1 Gaming Headset

Any recommendations or alternative 5.1's? Also any owners input would be nice too.

Thank you!

As Sonny said above.

Probably better off with some ATH-AD700X paired with a Soundblaster Zx if it's excellent positional audio you want.

I use the roccat Kave 5.1 with Asus xonar d2x and I love it.
TThe surround sound is simply stunning. The speakers are very high quality made, the sub with it vibration unit gives very nice punch to the Base and feedback.

Playing csgo I have had people blame me for hacking because I can hear everything what seems before everyone else at times.

+ very good surround sound
+ controller can set each audio speaker to your liking, so if you want to hear rear more than front you can or if you want to hear center over everything else you can.
+ build quality
+ sound stunning
+ looks

- they are heavy, not something that puts me off though.

Loads people on here will say otherwise and make you believe you must spend big on stereo because they believe true 5.1 is a gimmick. I 100% disagree

TheThroccat sound simply stunning and if you just read reviews from ocuk and other shops you see people do love them. They been in the market since 2010 and are still selling.

I couldn't go back to a stereo headset again.

I had the Roccat Kave with an Asus D2X.

I now use CAL's with the D2X and it's far superior. Sound quality is easily 10x better and they are far more spatially accurate than the Kaves ever were.

I think when people come in asking specifically about multi-speaker "true" surround headsets, then there is no point whatsoever weighing in with the whole "stereo headphones are better" argument. If that's what they want then I see no reason to waste any effort in trying to persuade them otherwise. If they ask for an opinion then that's another matter.

Agreed, I have given OP my review on Kave. That's all that matters. Some of us have our options and for me 5.1 all day long.

Totally agree with you true 5.1 has helped my game play also. On battlefield and other FPS due to the positional audio (hearing behind) which has saved my skin many many times. I appreciate your input.

These Roccats are actually first on my list. Do you notice discomfort from the three square pads on the headband? and lastly the hinges which hold the cups together, does it seem solidly built. Don't want it to break on me like my Trittons, they only lasted a few months.

I used to love the advantage my old Speedlink Medusa used to give me in games. I like the sound of my stereo set now but am often clueless as to the exact location of a sound.

Even back in the day people used to say that stereo was better than 5.1 but I was happy. Speedlink messed up the driver size in later revisions though so when mine broke the newer versions sort of sucked.

So if the guy wants 5.1then let them have 5.1.

I'm sure the sound quality will sound better, those CALs are rated highly. You say they are more spatially accurate than the Kaves. That is interesting to hear since you came from the Kaves. But I have tried similar setups previously and just didn't get on with the visualization :(

The headset is very well built. Not made from plastic you have a hard time snapping these. As for the comfort, I find them fine.

half decent stereo headphones > crappy expensive 5.1 headphones

Having used high end Sennheisers and AKG's I can understand where your coming from, but I'm willing to sacrifice lesser audio quality just so when peeps sneek up behind me I can turn around and shoot them in the face during an fps game.

Have tried similar before. Also now I have gone the mini itx route. There is no chance of adding a sound card to my setup.

Thank you ;)

I felt a large discomfort from the weight of them. You know you've been wearing them after an hour or 2 at your desk.
Damn that's a bugger. Though I should be ok, my gaming sessions are usually a couple of rounds.
