Spec me a turn based strategy game

Battle Isle 2.

By far the best in the series, and the early levels are just plain fun (the later levels take hours and hours).

WinSPWW2 or WINSPMBT, both free - if you ever played the awesome Steel Panther they are basically an updated and expanded version of that (with obviously the MBT one with modern tanks)

If you like Total War - have you tried King Arthur The Role Playing Wargame?
It's like Total War, but with a plot, magic and quests. Makes for an interesting remix of the format.

I haven't played King Arthur II, but the first one was great.

Not strictly 'turn' based, but how about Crusader Kings II? Only $9.99 on amazon.com and is an amazingly in-depth game. There is a demo on Steam so you can even try before you buy :)

Completely different from other suggestions but I got Bloodbowl the other day and I'm loving it. Can be had from here for about a fiver http://groupees.com/bm8 along with a **** ton of indie games.
+1 I loved Blood bowl the board game as a kid & when I saw it on steam I could not resist, so glad I did! it really is a very good conversion of the of the board game.
Space Hulk is coming out fairly soon as well which I'm looking forward too.

Slightly left field, but "Magic The Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalkers" is a very good translation of the turn based card game Magic The Gathering.

I recommend it.
