just about to have a s939 asrocl dual sata board coming my way ,

need to build something to replace my creaking xp2600 :) runs 2ghz atm on air with a ti4200 :) god bless,

minumum splurge

whats the advice?????????

want 2 specs a fm2006 spec ie i dont need to change my ti4200

and a 3d shooter spec :)

got a gig of mismatch ram but would like 2 gig minimum possibly more :)

I'm assuming that you will keep most of your old parts but will probably need a new case and PSU, I'd therefore suggest something like below. You'll need to overclock the CPU to match up with the graphics card but it ought to be a pretty decent boost overall.

CA-040-AN Antec Sonata II Piano Black Quiet Case - 450W Smart Power PSU (CA-040-AN)
£55.50 £55.50
CP-117-AM AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Venice 90nm (Socket 939) - Retail (ADA3000BPBOX) (CP-117-AM)
£59.95 £59.95
MY-006-OK OcUK Value 2GB (2x1GB) PC3200 184pin DDR Memory Dual Channel Kit (MY-006-OK)
£99.95 £99.95
GX-044-CO Connect3D ATI Radeon X1800 XT 256MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-044-CO)
£144.95 £144.95
Subtotal £360.35
VAT £63.07
Total £423.42

any thoughts on a spec for fm2006?

ie keeping the ti4200 :) :)

cpu/ram combo up to 300 notes

2 gig minimum no the ram front poss more and maybe dual core if poss as fm can support it :)

Here is a CPU/RAM combo based on you keeping the ti.

CP-152-AM AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ (Socket 939) - OEM (CP-152-AM)
£144.95 £144.95
HS-008-ZA Zalman CNPS7000B-ALCU Ultra-Quiet CPU Cooler - Retail (HS-008-ZA)
£14.95 £14.95
MY-006-OK OcUK Value 2GB (2x1GB) PC3200 184pin DDR Memory Dual Channel Kit (MY-006-OK)
£99.95 £99.95
Subtotal £259.85
VAT £45.48
Total £305.33

However you would need a case and PSU on top of this I would imagine.

nah already got a nice case and psu atm :)

any thoughts on doubling the ram up on that?

For starters 2GB is more than enough and you don't have the budget to go for more.

Secondly you'd be better spending money on the graphics rather than the RAM for more performance.

I'd actually recomend that you go for a 3800X2, 1GB RAM and a 7600GS graphics card. Overall that would give you a far better performing system.

Like this:

CP-152-AM AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ (Socket 939) - OEM (CP-152-AM)
£144.95 £144.95
HS-008-ZA Zalman CNPS7000B-ALCU Ultra-Quiet CPU Cooler - Retail (HS-008-ZA)
£14.95 £14.95
MY-004-OK OcUK Value 1GB (2x512MB) PC3200 184pin DDR Memory Dual Channel Kit (MY-004-OK)
£49.95 £49.95
GX-026-BG BFG 3DFuzion GeForce 7600 GS 256MB DDR2 TV-Out/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-026-BG)
£67.95 £67.95
Subtotal £277.80
VAT £48.62
Total £326.42

I'm not sure if you've played fm2006 but speed wise it is a big improvement over fm2005. I would say that progressing from day to day in the game is twice as fast probably. A good processor, plenty of ram and a fast hard disk would be the most important. Wouldn't need to spend much on the graphic card since fm2006 is only 2D. Fm2006 benefits from dual-core processor according to the sigame forums so go for one if you can afford it.

Dureth's recommendation is pretty good for the budget. Fm2006 doesn't use 2Gb of RAM so that might be a waste. So I would recommend the same spec for fm2006 but without the graphic card.

huzaaah someone who's finally listened to me on the point that my ti4200 will suffice for fm2006 :)

define quick on fm2006 :)

you ever tried playing with all leagues on????? 2 gig ram will be handy if not more,

Hmm....I don't have any exact figures but I can get through an English premiership season at half the time it use to take....about 2-3 days at my playing speed instead of say 5. Its a big improvement because most of the game time is spent waiting for it to process the matches.

I don't think 2Gb will be needed. I haven't played with all the leagues on but from the guys at the sigames forum say, 2Gb will not make a difference.
