Hi there,

My girlfriend is looking to upgrade to a new machine (her machine is SO old and slow). She's just looking for a machine for internet browsing and playing some simple games on (Nancy Drew etc.).

She doesn't really want to spend more than £200, so if you could spec something that will do the job for under that - would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

Tis impossible. :p

Well, that's a generalisation cos it depends on what you do and don't need but it might be better to go used.

Shame OcUK doesn't have a E-350 Fusion pre-build. Although they would be rather easy to spec.

Asus AMD E35M1-M PRO Hudson M1 Integrated Dual Core Zacate 18W APU SATA-600 DDR3 mATX (Fusion) [E35M1-M PRO]

OCZ Platinum 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Ultra Low Voltage Dual Channel Kit (OCZ3P1333C9ELV4GK) [OCZ3P1333C9ELV4GK]

Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (ST3500418AS) [ST3500418AS]

Samsung SH-S223C/BEBE 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM [SH-S223C/BEBE]

£181

Plus the case and PSU. That's an extra £25-£30.

Still expensive compared to the budget AMD Athlon build. Not sure what the integrated graphics are like on the AMD motherboard.

It's not possible to get a machine for under £200 that suitable for internet and games like Nancy Drew? Bare in mind the recommended specs for the last Nancy Drew game were:

Intel Processor - Pentium 4 2.0GHz
AMD Processor - Athlon XP 1600+
Nvidia Graphics Card - GeForce 6600 GFX Card
ATI Graphics Card - Radeon 9200 Series
RAM (Memory) - 0.512 GB
Hard Disk Space - 1.25 GB
Direct X - 9

She only needs the machine, no monitors, key boards or anything =)

Cheers

Stulid's build is without a case though, right?

EDIT:

Or a PSU for that matter.

You feeling ok Stulid?

That's what I'd go with if she needs the case.

"She only needs the machine, no monitors, key boards or anything =)" leads me to think she needs a case btw.

The mobo has a built in NVIDIA® GeForce 7025 & nForce 630a so not sure how that is in comparison to a GeForce 6600 of her MX 4000 though sorry.

After having a little read of this though, http://www.nvidia.com/object/mobo_gpu_features_benefits.html#gf7nf5 I think it might be

Get her a laptop?

Buy a Primo Submission for £180.50 shipped -> Clicky

Then get on the Wanted section of the members market and start waving for a Gcard inc shipping for £19.50 or browse the For sale for same.

The OP has free shipping. So the Primo Submission plus an ATi 5450 512mb card would come inside the budget and easily play the gf's favorite game without eating up system memory.

Personally I'd go with Stulid's build but if the OP wants an off-the-shelf solution the above will fit the bill.

Built a pretty good system on a competitors website for £185 free delivery. Dual core, 4gb RAM, 500g HD, Antec PSU, OK case, Asus mobo with integrated Nvidia. No OS though and needs a DVD drive for £10.

Ahar, this is true. Therefore:

Fanless gfx means one less fan adding to the general hum it makes.

That pre built system above isn't to bad but really I would say check the members market people do offer some nice systems for the £200 mark.

Awesome, thanks for the replies guys. Much appreciated! Will take a look in members market; but if we don't find anything suitable we'll go with one of the specs from here.

Thanks again.
