Spec me a uni house network please..

Hi guys,

moving in2 my new house with 4 other flat m8s this week. We need to get our internet sorted and connections. There will be five of us in total needing to connect our pc's and 3 PS3's. Could you guys spec us the equipment we will need to do this? (All laptops have intergrated wireless connections, but will this be strong enough for a 5 bedroom house??)...

hard to say as it depends on your house.

if you think that wireless won't work then you only have the option to buy a router and a switch and then connect them all up.

A router, check reviews for it's wireless signal abilities, although, unless it's an old house with huge, thick walls, I doubt you'd have a problem with any reputable brand name'd routers.

A 4/8port switch (4 port giving you 6 usable, 8 port giving you 10) connected to the router, assuming the router has four ports.

It's that simple.

Won't having 5 Pc's + 3 Ps3's connected at the same time wirelessly cause issues to the router? Would my DG834GT suffice?

You'll have to test it, although, I can't see that it'd be an issue.

Back when I went to uni, before wireless, or when wireless was silly price, we ran 6 computers in the network, 6 wires out of the windows to the master room with the broadband connection. Was great, landlords hated it but it worked.
