Hi,

I'm in need of a UPS to protect my PC and I know nothing about them really!

I've not really had too much of a problem with power surges, spikes or drops etc but I'm sure it does happen!
Currently I've got a surge protector but in the past I've returned to my PC to find just a white screen and the only way to turn it off is the PSU switch, nothing regular but as I have a lot of good hardware now I want to protect it.

So how do I know what size to get?
I have a Corsair AX760 PSU so do I need to match the UPS to this or go higher than this to allow for the monitor and everything else plugged in?

These seem really expensive so I'd rather buy the right one first time!

Cheers

Unless your local mains supply causes issues on a regular basis you'd probably just be wasting your money with a UPS.

For sizing you need to calculate or measure the actual power consumption. Then decide how long you want it to be able to run on batteries. Finally head over to APC and see what their sizing wizards recommend.

Personally I'd avoid anything that isn't true sine on its outputs.

Well there's a 3 phase inverter that runs a lathe and a mill in the shed, when the mill takes a big cut the lights dim a little....

I've no idea how much the supply varies and I dont know how I'd measure that either but it does!

Its not so much that I want it to run my PC, just protect against the surges and top it up when it falls, if thats the right expression!

I'll have a work out and see what APC have to offer.

Cheers
:)
