Thinking of getting a van...something to go away with...take my mountain bike...sleep in when camping along with a tent depending on weather and location.

Anything for 1.5 k?

Cheers:)

Something like this you mean?

£1500 is no budget for a van sadly, you'd really be scraping the barrel. Might get a high mileage transit or something 90's and Japanese for that. Like an old Hiace, or an L300 if you're lucky.

With that budget id be looking at big estate cars instead. :)

Spoilt for choice at that price, but I'd rather go away with and sleep in a big Volvo than a Transit van... I can't imagine you'd get a great nights sleep in the back of a van, with no airflow, no windows, etc... :p

I swapped my 1.2 Vauxhall nova for a 2.0 l petrol transit when I was 21....had some fun in that van ...it just drank petrol

I took my dad to Paris in it... My gf to Scotland and Wales...

Good times :cool::)

Leave the doors open.

My vote though would be for a pickup. Preferably one with a box back.

Avoid a Renault Traffic at all costs, Fiat Doblo 1.9JTD - I had one with Elec Windows, twin slider, mint condition on an 04 plate 4 years back for £2k! You'll be able to get a facelift one for that, everyone overlooks them but ive never had an issue with mine!

Why would anyone buy a 1.9JTD Doblo over a 2.4 D5 Volvo V70 estate with spec galore, comfy seats, comparitively decent handling, and enough room in the back for an 8 ft giant to lay down comfortably? (the seats all fold totally flat) - You couldn't even lay down in a Doblo anyway. Not to mention the fact that the 2005 1.4 petrol Doblo I drove once, was the worst vehicle I have ever driven, looked at, or sat in. It was just horrible to drive. It was like being pirched atop a creaky box of unstableness. It made the work Transit feel like a Rolls Royce.

I've got a number of friends with them and they have all been pretty faultless and ive found they are normally not too bad to drive.

However, failing that the newer Transits are pretty good.

I got a 54 plate Transit mid top, swb for £1800

It had 80k, was in very good condition and owned first by BT then a rock climber. It was pretty damn good actually and was so simple.

That was from Gumtree locally, just kept my eyes open. Parts are cheap and it drove surprisingly well. I turned it into a camper, thread somewhere else on the forums.

But, point is, it can be done if you looks around and take your time.

In between a Volvo and a Transit you could look at an MPV. My father used to have a Seat Alhambra that he slept in the back of on occasion and said it was pretty comfortable. Before it died a long drawn out death where it would frequently lose large amounts of coolant.

Could find an old one (2002-06 ish) for your original budget (1.5).
