Back in the day I used to use tight VNC and/or UltraVNC, but haven't had need for a vnc client for a good while.

Which client/server combo is considered the best nowadays? I'd much prefer a free one

built in windows remote desktop is really miles above anything else I've tried.

ah.. I didn't even think of trying the Windows client!

I played around with RDP last night, and I don't like the way the host computer gets locked, requiring the user to log back in.

Is there a way to stop this, so it acts like real/tight/ultra VNC, leaving the host machine logged in as normal, just under client control?
