Spec me a VPN!

Just signed up to PIA and while my iphone gets 60mbit on speedtest.net when connected to my fibre (65mbit without VPN enabled) my Win7 laptop via ethernet gets mid 20mbit at best (gets 65mbit without VPN enabled), both are connected to UK servers but i've tried others around Europe with barely any difference.

Anyone any ideas why? I'm a VPN newbie!

Obvious questions, are they using the same server and VPN type? I.e. OpenVPN/IPSEC/PPTP.

Well OpenVPN on the win7 laptop and the PIA app on the iphone....both connected to the same VPN server.

EDIT actually it was the PIA app on Win7, installed OpenVPN and set it to the same server and i get 6mbps!! Hmmm.

Make sure you're connecting over UDP not TCP for best speed.

Think i've sorted it, installed an older TAP driver as PIA suggest and its now 55/16 rather than my none VPN speed of 65/17.

A question for you bods using a VPN. Do you have it running constantly or do you just switch it on when needed?

Constantly(installed to my router)
Constantly on my phone(this does gobble battery power like crazy though)
