Hey all
My iPod recently died on me and my current mobile phone is getting dated. So I'm looking for a 2-in-1: A phone that is good to use as an mp3 player (ie. good interface and sound quality).
My budget is around £100. It needs to be thin and I only need it for phoning, texting and some camera use. Any suggestions? :)

Any newish N-series phone has a good decent music player..

i use my n81-8gb for like a everythingyoucanpossiblethinkof-in-1..

however, i think the default music player is absolutely *********. well, if you're into having your music sorted by id3 tags, playlists, etc then its very useful.. however i like choosing my albums by folder.. and its something the music player does not support - so i have create new playlists for any album i up to the phone.

For £100 you can get one of these:-

Good mp3 functionality, good camera, and very thin.

That gets my vote, it is a great little phone and one of the few that I've had in the past few years that actually makes me think "wow". The camera isn't that great and it doesn't have a flash but for everything else it is just about perfect and I haven't broken the keys yet so something is going right. :)

^What he said! It really does have to be the W880i.
Can't go wrong. It's hard to think of anything else that fits your requirements so well.

Thanks for the suggestions. w880i looks great. I'm going to be using the phone with an O2 pay-as-you-go sim, so is there any where I can buy the phone without a contract and without a logo?

What player would you reccomend for the N series?

Although i've had my problems with it in the past, I have to say i'm very happy with my 5310 now.

It's a great looking phone, nice to use, good battery life. The MP3 player's music quality is really good, this aspect of it really took me by surprise. The headphone jack saves a lot of hassle too.

Oh, and there's a 2GB MicroSD card in the box.

What I must add is that it's essential you flash it to the latest (3.63 I think) firmware as soon as you take it out of the box. I had no end of problems, but a quick flash later and the phone is working well.

Thanks. Does anyone here have the 5610? What do you think of it? Seems to have some extra features like camera flash and 3G.. although I don't particularly need those things.

Edit: I'd also like to know how the sound quality of the Nokia 6300 compares to the 5310?

on my old n80 i used lcg-jukebox - it doesnt look very good, but it did exactly as i wanted, it could also gather album art of the net i believe - however the program is not free.

i currently use the default music player on my n81.. simply because then i can use the media keys on the keypad to change track, and the program cannot be turned off.

the walkman on my w580i is decent :) nice interface and use-ability. Not sure if thats the kinda thing your after though, just thought id stick my boot in :D thinish/slider/2mp cam/also does phone calls and texting too.

The W580i/S500i is a nice phone (W version has better mp3 capabilities and a pedometer, S is the more stylish of the two) however I managed to crack the keypads on 3 or 4 in a row so that is why I wouldn't recommend them as such. If you are less heavy handed than me or they've fixed what was a noted problem then they ought to fill the requirements as well, albeit not quite as light or as slim as the W880i. :)
