spec me a washing machine

Only just seen this post.

You will find in other threads where I said I used to send my test lab results round the world including Which?
However, and I have said in this thread, it's been 5 years since I last did lab testing for Which? and quality may have changed in the domestic appliance industry but knowing how Merloni operate I doubt it.

Also take into account that Hotpoint, Creda, Indesit & Ariston are made with exactly the same parts by the same company and you have to ask why the other 3 aren't in that list?

Yep - when I posted the image I didn't want it to come across as me saying you are wrong, I just was surprised to say the least because of what you've said about them.

If all I had to go on was Which? then it'd be difficult to justify anything but the cheap Hotpoint on that list, it's so much cheaper than the rest. I don't know if Which? take price into account for their ratings, I've always thought they didn't, but perhaps I'm wrong.

The thing is that I wouldn't think Which? did fidatezza testing.
This comprises of taking (in our case) 32 products and testing over 30 days 24/7 and seeing how the products stand up.
This obviously gives a much better quality result than the Which? labs which may have just one or two products from each company.
This means you could have a cheap product that outlasts a Miele.

my ex is buyinf a BEKO .... £200 jobby lol...

i told her i would pay the extra for a miele seeing as she does all my washing but she aint interested :O

Cheers! Ordering :D
How are you getting on with the LG? I'm looking for a new washer and this one is high on the shortlist.

I recently bought an LG F1456QD. The machine is very quiet, and so far I've only used the cotton quick wash which takes just over an hour, but the clothes come out nice and clean.
Can you do a full load on the quick cotton cycle? The manual says 3.5kg max though I can only imagine this must be something to do with cleaning quality rather than damaging anything.

Have you had much trouble with out of balance loads causing it not to spin? That along with long wash cycles seem to be the only recurrent complaints I've seen.

If you're using information from Which? then you should also look at their reliability index where Hotpoint is 3rd from bottom. LG don't really shine either on there.

Well, I have done lots of full loads on the cotton quick, and on just one occasion I had a little powder residue on the clothes. Overall though, pretty pleased with the machine, although I've only used the cotton cycles. I now use the normal cotton cycle and it doesn't seem overly long.

Don't have access to Which?. Just going off what I've read on the web and round here. In the roughly £300 market the LG or an entry level Bosch (maybe Bosch Classixx WAE24166UK) seem to less slated.

After more reading I realise 2-3hours is normal nowadays with the water reduction measures they use.

I'm really mourning the demise of my trusty ancient Ariston with its 1 hour washes.

Well apart from finding out it doesn't like suspended wooden floors it seems good! So far only used the cotton wash and the 30 min (39 min @40c) quick wash. Not had any issues with unbalanced loads despite putting in all different sizes and weights of wash on.

I didn't even realise you weren't meant to do a full load on the quick wash cycle! To be honest most of the stuff we wash on that cycle just needs a freshen up rather than removing any soiling/stains.

Quick question for those using the 'I repair more of x than I do y so therefore y must be more reliable' do you take into account the full sales figures for each model? I don't know this to be true but I would imagine that far more cheap hotpoints are sold than expensive Meile's so that alone should mean your visiting far more budget devices than luxury ones.

Amusingly I have a hotpoint dishwasher, a hotpoint washing machine and a beko fridge freezer none of which have ever missed a beat yet my Bosch oven that cost more than all three combined has broken down twice in the same time period due to the same crappy cheaply made control knob failing.
