Hi guys,

I'm getting a watch as a gift, and the gift buyer wants me to pick it so i like it!

Basically, I have never had a watch before, I don't often wear them but I want one I can wear day to day.

Budget is £100, maybe slightly over but certainly not a lot. Please don't turn this into normal spec threads saying "you should get a 500 quid whatever". It's a gift so the limit is fixed!

Also, looks and style are quite important, so far I'm totally in love with this for looks:

I think it looks brilliant so something similar to that is ideal. If not I think that would be the final choice.

Any thoughts?

Thanks guys!

If you like the look of that one then go for it. Watches are very personal and you'll only end up with the majority of comments either slating the looks of your chosen watch or suggesting ones that are completely different.

is ebay "reliable" for watches??

or am I guaranteed to get a fake Seiko?

Same as everything else on Ebay, buy from turstworthy sellers, or take a gamble.

I've personally bought a couple of Seikos from different UK powersellers, and have got exactly what was described, including the international warranty on the Seiko Monster and Kinetics i've bought.

PS. I highly rate the Seiko monster. I've never seen such a good watch for the money.

For a little over £100 you can get the Casio GW-810BD-1ER. Yes it's a G-Shock but it's also an atomic time keeper and has the neat little trick of lighting up when you lift your arm to check the time. So good that mine got stolen by a policeman when I was busy dealing with a fire (I should have been more careful and not let him see me slip it into my shoe as I pulled on my fire gear).

Sorry for the hijack, was wondering if anything know what other Seiko Kinetic there are with a Large see through back like this one? Most other ones i've seen are smaller.

I like this one if it weren't gold and so "bulky"

No. You are pretty much guaranteed to get a genuine Seiko. Seiko watches are relatively cheap and not work faking and you can get some incredibly good deals on eBay for them.

yeah get one off ebay, there much much cheaper than buying them from the shops.

I got an armani watch off there that would have cost me close to 200 and I got it for around 90. There are loads of seikos on there, most of them look nice for a resonably priced watch

I have a silver Seiko Arctura Kinetic, I got it form ebay and it is genuine. I love it. never needs a battery and looks really nice !

Thinking of Casio?

I guess you don't really understand what Feek is getting at.

Seiko's are cheap watches, barring a few models - Grand Seiko, Spring drive etcetera.

Consider what it takes to manufacture a watch. It requires materials, machinery, and labour. You have to make dials, crystals, hands, cases, crowns, bracelets etcetera, and then assemble it. After you've done all that, you need to sell it for a profit, and given that Seiko's go for anything from about £30 for a Seiko 5, where are you going to make any money?

ok i've had a look and yeh there's some nice looking seiko's there I have to say! made my choice harder!

How would you guys rate the Pulsar that I posted? I'm still tending towards it simply because it looks just awesome (imho)...

Cheers for the replies!
