Hey guys

I am after some gloves for the old winter shooting

Ideally they will be thin enough to offer good feel of the camera buttons dials etc etc, waterproof, but thick enough to offer protection from the biting winds, snow etc etc

Don't want something stupidly expensive ideally, but someone must have a few ideas

Let me know :)

I use a pair of thinsulate fingerless gloves with a fold back mitt. Not waterproof but does the job. Has a fold back thumb as well so you can easily use the rear autofocus. Think I got them at john lewis.

I've got a pair of Montane Powerdry gloves, bout £15. Light enough to feel the camera through but still warm and with rubber grips where you need them for photography.

Mountain Equipment Mountain Glove. Good products at a reasonable price.

Their website is at

They're the ones on the third row on the right.

The Mountain Glove retails for around £34 features include

Drilite® Extreme insert is waterproof and breathable.
500D nylon outer shell is durable and abrasion resistant.
Box finger construction and 2-part thumb construction for comfort and deterity.
Fleece lined for warmth.
Knitted wrist cuff seals in the warmth.
Suregrip palm improves grip on poles or ice axes.
Single handed drawcord closure.

the palm side and fingers are made of a tough rubberised material, gives a really good grip. Never had a problem operating my Canon 50D with them on, you can operate all of the buttons easily.

Been up into Snowdonia in the middle of winter and my hands were ok. When it gets really cold, I just pop a very thin pair of Thinsulate type gloves on and then wear the Mountain Gear ones over the top - same principle applies to hands as the body - more layers trap air and keep things warm.

There are cheaper neoprene gloves out there if cost is an issue, a leading supermarket beginning with T sell some 2.5mm ones for £11, they are used for watersports but will keep your hands warm and dry.
