I've started playing Need for Speed Shift (with keyboard) and have been thinking I might treat myself (I deserve it.. :D) to a steering wheel.

I've searched the forum but I'm a little confused about a couple of the steering wheels on the market.

I've seen the 'Logitech Driving Force EX' on a couple of sites billed as a wheel for 'PS2, PS3 & PC' but on the Logitech website it isn't one of the PC compatible wheels. I don't want a G25 as I don't play THAT much and its way over the top for me in terms of features and price.

I just want a simple wheel with brake, accelerator and force feedback would be great. I've seen the 'Formula' on OCUK but havent read great things about it. I don't mind spending £70 (maybe a tad more) if someone can point me in the right direction!

I've got a logitech driving force pro and i've never had any problems with it. I hear the logitech momo is good too
DFP is no longer sold anywhere, but it's a great budget wheel. also heard decent things about the momo. pretty much any logitech wheel seems decent though

I've had a Fanatec 911 wheel and a Momo and I'd pick my Momo every time. Saying that a friend has a G25 and it's soo much better than the Momo, just a shame the build quality isn't as good :/

Thanks for your replies. Much appreciated. I've also seen a wheel which has a 'lap mount'.. Do any of the wheel mentioned above have this or does anyone know what wheel does. My desk is very small so this could be useful.

The wheel I would recommend is the Logitech G25. I know it's expensive, but it's worth it. I had for one for a few days, and it was excellent. Just had to send it back, as I needed the money more than the wheel =(

You must have been gutted. It is expensive and I honestly don't think I can justify its high price. I think I'd prefer to put that kind of cash into a new GPU!

The Driving Force GT looks like a good option for me, I'll shop around a bit and see what deals are to be had.

thanks again!

I'd go for a Driving Force GT, as you say the G25 is an expensive wheel, I've got one but I'm a sim racing nut that spends easily 10+ hours a week using it, makes it more worthwhile then :p

I'd avoid lap mounts, they might seem a good idea but with a force feedback wheel it's never gonna work properly, table/desk mount or think you can get a standalone frame to mount the wheel on...

Now of course is the obligatory plug for sim racing, NFS: Shift is ok but it's not a sim, if you like racing games and want a challenge (in terms of learning to handle the car, the right line around a track etc etc) then I would reccomend giving sim racing a go, ones like:

Grand Prix Legends (hard to find as it's old, but still awesome as a sim)
Live For Speed
rFactor
GTR/'Race' series (GTR Evo being the latest iirc?)
and finally, iRacing, best sim but also by far the most expensive (monthly cost + content :p)

I spend my 10 hours a week on iRacing :p

Interesting, I might look into some of those. I've always liked the NFS games, well some of anyway and Shift is good fun. Just ordered the DFGT on offer so well pleased.

Does the DFGT work on PC's as I see it advertised for the PS2 & 3.

I have a momo force which has died on me. I cannot warrant spending too much as I am not that much of a petrol head these days.
