Hey guys,

Recently brought a new router TP-LINK TD W9980 and wireless adapter Netgear A6210. However, the adapter is going back because it has massive issues with windows 10 compatibility.
I've tried different USB ports, downloading the mediatek driver etc.

I'd love to go wired but I can't :(. Anyone recommend me a good adapter to suit this router perfectly?

I have looked at an Asus n600 one.

How about powerlines? My friend had issues trying to find a cheapish adapter that worked with W10 but gave up and tried powerlines after I suggested it.

Just googled what it is and seems much better than wifi adapters. Only question I have is that I live in a small 3 floor flat? Will other people pick up on my internet? :(. If somehow other people are using power lines.

I'm sure its an A610 I've got, under win10 the windows wifi connection manager wouldn't work properly, (windows hang trying to connect), using the netgear connection manager (bundled with the win10 driver download), connected straight away.

NOTE a lot of older wifi adapters dont work under win10, no driver support.

Mine just doesn't want to work. The problem I have is that my PC can't find the adapter and I have tried using UsB 3.0 on back and front and USB 2.0, but none can't find it. I can guarantee that my ports are fine as other devices have been plugged into them.

I do like the idea of power lines, they have a lot of positive reviews

If they share the same earth wiring, then yes, potentially there could be conflicts between two LANs. I don't think the homeplugs have to be paired - ie I think you can use multiple ones on the same network, but I could be wrong.

What floor are you and the router on? If each floor are on their own electrical circuit then that can heavily affect the powerlines to the point they may not even be able to see each other.

Then it should be fine, I wouldn't worry too much about people outside your flat being able to access it. You usually need to press a button on one of the existing powerlines and a new one anyway to add a new set to the network.

Okay I will give them a try :).
Thanks for your help, if somehow they don't work I will just return them.

Is there any specific ones you'd recommend? The t-plink ones seem reasonable. Something for 15mbps and online gaming. I'd frog want something future proof just in case I get faster internet speed

I've was using TP-Link 500mb kit myself with no issues, syncs fast enough to take advantage of my FTTC internet. Latency is a little higher than ethernet but it's still better than wireless, so great for online gaming. Passed on to my friend now however as I installed gigabit ethernet around the home, and it works fine with his flatmate's TP-Link 500mb kit as well even though they're based on an older model.
