Hi,

I will soon be needing a wireless network card or adapter for a home network, this will be the first time I've used wireless so excuse my ignorance.

I'm not sure exactly of the speed I will be getting (new house) but I wouldn't say any higher than 50mb/s for sure. I want a reliable connection not one that cuts out every now and then (hope that exists with wireless). Also keep in mind the connection will be used for downloading large files on occasion & online gaming.

Firstly, what is better to have a wireless card or a USB adapter? I assume a card is better?

Second, is there any difference between the different price range of cards/adapters other than they support more speed?

Lastly, any recommendations? :)

Thanks.

I'm probably going to get an ASUS PCE-N13 to slot in a spare PCI Express slot when I go wireless in the near future.

Thanks for the reply.

Surely someone else has an opinion? All I want to know basically is what is better a wireless PCI card or a USB adapter.

I'd appreciate it.

OP: From my experience USB adaptors are absolute poo. They get the signal ok (most of the time) but they have lag spikes all over the place.

My brother had so much trouble with his Netgear wireless G usb stick that he just bought a pci one with a big antenna on and now he can game very well.
One brother now has the new wireless pci card and games fine (same ping as me and I am wired), the other has another Netgear wireless G usb stick and he cannot play FPS online due to how pants it is.

From my past experiences, avoid a usb wireless if at all possible.

I thought that would be the case. Thanks for the confirmation :)

I think I'll get this: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=NW-002-DN&groupid=46&catid=1597&subcat=1622

Just to let anyone who's interested know;

I've been using the card (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...97&subcat=1622) for 3-4 days now and I'm quite pleased with it. Seems to have made virtually no difference to wired for me so far. Maybe slightly higher pings in online games but not noticeably higher. No random disconnects or cut outs either. This is with the router in the next room though so I don't know how it would be if it was further away on a different floor or something.
