Spec me a Wireless Network

Right, coming up to Christmas and I fancy going wireless to get rid of the cable I have running up the stairs.

I've got two PCs upstairs both running XP SP2 with one of them connected to the internet (8meg adsl) by a wired connection running from the downstairs telephone socket by an extension cord. The other PC is currently not connected.

I've read about Wireless Access Points but I have limited knowledge about wireless and what works best.

I'd like to ask whether it would be better to:

buy a wireless access point that will be placed at the telephone socket downstairs and use two wireless receivers/adaptors on the computers upstairs

or

keep the wired connection and purchase a wireless router connected to one PC and connect the other PC wirelessly.

Any help would be great :)

Ok thank you, so is it just as simple as placing a wireless adsl router at the phone socket and using two wireless network adapters? Allowing the router to distribute the traffic?
