Hi All,

I need help with a new work PC, I'm a DBA and my normal work load is the setting up, testing, system monitoring, configuration and development of database in SQL and Oracle. I have shown that the setting up and and testing of new databases and configuration changes to a large database live on the SAN is not a viable option even on some decent servers during working hours via Citrix or RDS with a thin client.

So they have granted permission to install a stand alone desktop to perform my duties and given me a budget of £1,200 for a new desktop but the cheaper the better with VfM and all that ;)

OK database wise

I have to manage these, an Oracle database that's 2.8Tb and I have 4 SQL ones ranging from 120Gb to 60Gb.

I have come up with this but I am looking for advise (I know I'm normally a spec kinda person myself and help other's with their build but I didn't want to miss a trick).

Do not need an OS as will be installing Windows 7 Enterprise Edition and a couple of VM with Windows Server 2008 R2 most used programs are Excel, SQL Management Studio and Oracle Vision.

isn't it cheaper to get 3x3tb hdds instead of 5x2tb hdds? they can be spaced out more too so they won't get as hot and the case will have better airflow. Also i would still run a low end aftermarket cooler even if not ocing to keep it extra quiet.

The H100 doesn't fit in the Shinobi (TTL modded one if you want to go on youtube) sadly but other than that it's sweeeet! Helps not spunking so many spondoolies on the HDDs :)
