Afternoon all,
I need a nice highend workstation for running multiple VM Instances for software development and testing for resource hungry network management and simulation software.
Specs wise I thinking at least 2 physical CPU's so it can either have a pair of duel core chips or 2 seperate chips. and at a minimum 4 GB's Ram - 8 would probably be better though the cost difference would play a role in my decision as it may have to be ECC registered RAM
OS Wise it will have to tripple boot XP Pro, Vista Business, and WinServ 2003 R2 64-Bit. VM Ware will be run under WinServer.
Storage Wise I need RAID 5 if its SATA or A pair of Mirrored SCSI U320 Drives and then SATA for storage, it'll have an external HP tape drive for backup if this is the case. The SCSI drives need to be at least 70 GB's in capacity (only WinServ will be on this Volume).
HPUX and Solaris will need to run on the VM images hence the high spec.
Display wise - It needs at least a 6800 GT though something a little more pokey would be nice, no duel card solutions though.
No monitor kb or mouse required.
Noise is also a factor but won't swing it.
Let the challenge commence! Budget wise this lot won't come in at under 2 grand so lets see what you can do upto 4K, though a variety of options at different price points would be neat! (AMD 4x4 Available yet?)
Cheers for the help guys
