I'm looking for an ADSL/Fibre compatible router plus a couple of wireless access points to span over a large area (approx 50m)

The router must support ADSL, Fibre and have VPN capabilities. I'd like something very tweakable, not the standard Netgear-type routers.

Access points to work with the router and sit either end of the networked area.

Ideally I want to be able to give guest access to the wifi but secure the home LAN/WAN.

Overall budget around £400.

I've used Draytek kit in the past but open to other options :)

For the router I can't see any reason not to stick with Draytek, it sounds like a 2830 or a 2850 would do what you want.

The UniFi access points from Ubiquiti are worth a look. There are guest options, but I've never need to use them so I'm not exactly sure of the capabilities.

Yeah the Draytek 2830 fits those specs well, you can use it for ADSL or you can plug the FTTC connection / openreach modem into the WAN2 port - I would avoid the 2850 because of the issues people have with the VDSL connection. The 2830 is pretty solid though :) I've got one myself and like it so far. It's also capable of setting up multiple subnets so you can have a guest network on a separate subnet.

I got somewhat disillusioned with Draytek. In preperation for FTTC (this Friday -- woo-hoo!) I bought an Asus-RT66. I am using my current (BE*) modem as a, erm, modem and the Asus as the router. On Friday I will just replace the modem with the OpenReach supplied one.

So far it has been good: the wireless is exceptional and it has the features I used on the Drayek (VPN, QoS) with extras like torrent client, media server etc..
