Looking for a new pair of brown/tan leather formal shoes (Probably Oxford style) for going into the office or out to visit clients but not wanting to pay the outrageous prices that the big high street names charge.

Previously got some very good black ones for under £50 from Samuel Windsor but they've closed down now sadly so hoping to find somewhere that offers their level of quality and service in a similar price range. Where do the good people of OcUK get their formal shoes from?

As with any online only retailer reviews of the service of any place recommended would be appreciated, cheers.

Timberland £110 I think, maybe the best pair of work shoes I've owned and they look like they should last 2+ years. When it comes to shoes you get what you pay for. Last Clarkes shoes I bought were just the wrong type for me, I could bearly walk in them, had an interview in them and that was it, not worn since. Another pair of Clarkes shoes just went right back unopened as the Timberland **** all over em :)

would probably look M&S for formal shoes - can usually get free pick-up in stores & returns for the wrong sizes, even if local doesn't have a good selection,
good warranty too.

Clarks - used to regularly buy their Nature range, before working from home more, but the soles/comfort and manufacture are no longer good,
returned/refunded several pairs

Clarks quality seems to have fallen off a cliff lately. I second the M & S suggestion above.

Buy cheap buy twice. You can get Made in England Loakes on eBay/on sale sites <£120.

Don't pay £100 for rubber factory made crap. Don't settle for "2 years" being a reasonable time span for shoes.

For someone looking for a pair of shoes for under £50 (and nothing wrong with that) then I'm not sure 'buy Loakes' is the answer to their question.

You near a designer outlet? I got some fab Hugo Boss brown formal shoes for £70. Normal price £280!

Fair, but you get eBay snobs who aren't willing to type Loake <your size> into eBay yet are willing to set fire to £35 at Next.
