Runs very hot
No more better performance than my AC66U

I'm going to return it. They should have included some kind of stand with it because if you lay it flat it seriously gets too hot to touch from underneath. I can get a 68U or even the RT-AC3200 instead with the same discount applied so just need to consider my options right now

That's disappointing! I'm going to give mine a go and if it's no better than my 56U it will be going back. I thought you could only lay this one flat anyway? Surprised the signal isn't any better. Are you using an AC card with it?

I don't have any AC clients, just n. All the essential hardware is connected via ethernet.

Yes it can only be laid flat but for some reason I assumed it would have come with a stand like on my 66U. I've looked on Youtube and people have connected fans to theirs or laid it ontop of one of those laptop coolers.

I did hope that wireless would be stronger but I checked link speed, attenuation on all the tablets at various distances as well as running speed test and they weren't better than my previous router.

The 68U is often described as a router that has aged graciously so I asked them to apply the same discount to that which they did so I am getting that. I did consider the AC3200 at £150'ish but it's just not worth spending that much on a router for my setup as I have an access point.

The 87U is being picked up tomorrow.

The 68U from what I understand has had a subtle revision also. In the States it is called the 68P but for the EU it's 68U B1 and C1 (C1 being the best)

A1/A2 is the old CPU BCM4708 at 800mhz. A2 added sheilding for usb3.0 interference
B1 (BCM4709 1GHZ) and new skyworks amp for 5GHz
C1 should add to this with new 5GHz and 2.4GHz chips should be 2 BCM43602 which will have there own CPU to offload wifi processing from the CPU, but nobody is sure yet.
 
I will give mine a shot when it arrives later in the week (only got free delivery) and see if it's any improvement for me. :)
 
Just set mine up and wow the wireless speed is a big improvement! Finally getting the full 300mbps from my USB TP-Link USB adapter (was only 144 on my 56U) my ping has improved by 5MS and it's finally giving me a consistent wireless speed on speedtest.net. Very happy so far :)

Where have you installed the Ubiquiti AP? If those things aren't fit centrally on a ceiling then it defeats the point in having one. Unless there is something special about them that I don't know about which is a huge possibility. Does it have that new mesh connectivity or whatever it is called?

Mine is connected in the attic and mounted on the ceiling of the upstairs hall, just to the side of the stairs. I have old solid stone/mortar walls which makes wifi a pain. This has worked better than anything before it. I plan to get one maybe two more around the house for solid coverage.

Edit: should mention when my house was rewired I have wired cat6 everywhere, even a redundant run behind the second toilet in case I ever turn it into an office.

lies the runs behind the toilet is for when you plan to hook up a small screen connected to the home automation door bell so you know who is pressing it whilst you are occupied . You'll never miss that OCUK DPD delivery again :p

Impressive ;)

Currently I have ours sat on the landing till I can fit it on the ceiling. As a test I disabled wifi on the router and the AP's coverage is significantly better than the AP despite it currently pointing up rather than down. Separating wifi functions from the router in this case has significantly improved things.
