So for the next 10 months or so I'm stuck in house with pretty terrible broadband, and I need to squeeze everything I can from it. I'm sharing with 3 other people who are all moderate users but will still manage to end up with times where it's almost impossible to open a webpage.

A lot of this is I'm sure down to our phone line / connection in general and we can't do anything about it. However, I'm hoping if I had the degree of control something like tomato offers, I'd be able to manage the situation a little better.

Through trawling through all threads on here and other places, I did see some possible setups I could use; however they all seemd quite old, and I'm wondering what fellow ADSL users are controlling thier internet with now.

So, what's the current best way to get a Tomato (or similar) setup, using ADSL? While options for cable seem more plentiful, there's no cable in our area . . .

Dt834GT as modem, WRT54GL or Rt-N16 running the raf mod. Tbh, if you're buying new you're better with the N16, we reached the limits of the 54gls flash & ram a while back. The 54GL build is a year behind the N16 build, although still quite excellent :) (and running on my GL).

Thanks, this sounds like what I'm looking for! Any chance I could get away with my existing DG834G acting as a modem? There are so many similar models names :(
