These are my current system specs.

Dark fleet 85
Intel i5 2500k
Asrock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3 Intel Z6
4GB ocz reaper 1600mhz ddr3
bequiet 650w PSU

was wondering whether someone could spec a good performing CPU cooler for socket 1155. Im not overly fussed about price as long as it performs well and shall keep my 2500k nice and cold.

yeah it can be tough to fit in a small case like mine but the DF85 should offer more than enough room, and the ramsinks can be avoided if you go pull/pull on the fans instead of Push/push :)

Silver arrow or noctua nb d-15.. I had silver arrow preorder for months then when they said they don't know when they'd get stock in I switched to noctua... The day after I fitted noctua the SA came back in stock.. Noctua beast of a cooler tho.. Just had my heart set on a SA lol..

Got 4.8 over clock on mine with temps hitting mid 70s while running ibt

Another Silver Arrow or Noctua D14 here. The Noctua is easier to fit and a bit smaller, but the fans are not PWM.

From my own experience and from what I have read, the SA is better at cooling.

I read somewhere that the Silver Arrow cools slightly better at lower voltages but the Noctua out performs it a little as voltage is increased.

For all intents and purposes performance is nearly identical though. :)

I bought the Silver Arrow because of the PWM fans and the fact that it's cheaper than the Noctua.

Thank you all for the replies, i shall see whether I've got the clearance in my case for the SA. My RAM is also not very low-profile, having large heat-sinks on the top, with my current cnps9900 it is just about touching. Though I may be getting some more ram in January or February.

When you say pull-pull, you mean both blowing towards rear exhaust right?

These are the dimensions of my current cooler.
94(L) X 131(W) X 152(H)m
So not much difference in terms of height.
SA Dimensions.
Length 147mm x Width 123mm x Height 160mm
It seems it will fit.
