Hello all,

I am looking into buying a computer and need help on deciding the internal components, external peripherals and software.

As the title states, my price limit is £3000 for everything.

It needs the following components, peripherals and software for it:

Components:
Motherboard
CPU
Heat Sink
RAM
Graphic Card
Sound Card
Optical Drive
Hard Drive
PSU
USB Ports
Network Card
Cables
Tower/Case

Peripherals:
Monitor
Keyboard
Mouse
Printer

Software:
Operating System
Anti Virus
Application programs, e.g. Microsoft Office, etc (optional).

AMD's fine for the GPU choice (More than fine really, Nvidia/AMD are nigh on parity) but at this budget? It'd be pure madness to go for an AMD CPU.

Are you open to Intel?

Intel then, although I've been an AMD user for a long time. I could switch, no problem. My last gaming PC I built in 2008 and it is outdated now.

Many thanks.

My take on this.

The rest would give you your cables and a couple of extra case fans...

Just looking as an out of interest - if you did go AMD you can put in a second 290 and a second monitor.

Obviously there is going to be a bit of bottle necking from the CPU in some cases - but I would think that over the next 18 months changes in graphics engine would ease that bottle neck.

No printer and apparently the 8xxx series are pretty much better than the 9xxx series of AMD CPU's (at least I've heard.) Tbh at 3k no i7 is pretty pointless?

You'd bottleneck one card a bit, two would be a lot.

An FX system at this price point is completely out of the question frankly.

It's on the grounds of price/performance, the FX9's don't have good price/performance, an Intel is next to always a better choice.

Some good options put forward.

Just a question though, what are you going to be using the system for? Just gaming?

You could build a great gaming setup for a lot less than £3K, however it is obviously your money.

You would have to buy a printer from elsewhere as OCUK don't seem to sell them

Haven't included a soundcard as onboard should be good enough.

I would wait for blingmaster and doomed to do you a spec as well :D

OCUK don't do printers, but if they did they would obviously be the best printers on the planet.

I was only playing to see what the extra $$$ would let you put in the spec, especially as the OP asked for an AMD build. At that price if I was looking at AMD a 9xxx might be a thought just in case they were a better binned piece of silicon.

@martini - Even at 3 grand there is always compromise though, at the speeds of top end CPU's if the choice was a top end AMD and a twin monitor setup or single monitor and Intel I would probably go AMD on the basis that multi-thread optimization over the next 3 years would narrow the current gap.
I'm not saying that the AMD will ever be better than the Intel - just that you are going to have an amazing gaming performance with two 290's and either and two monitors is always awesome.
