Well sort of. :o

My dad is wondering about getting some kind of automation in the living/dining room, such as lighting, curtains and controlling TV/DVD but we don't really know where to start and where to look for the component parts. Where thinking of doing something like THIS but on a much smaller scale.

As I said we are thinking of replacing (or more likely complimenting) light switches with remote dimmer switches controlled by a PDA type thing which also controls the TV and the curtains in a similar manner.

Anyway to the point. Has anyone got any experience with this sort of thing and/or links to websites and companies that sell this equipment?

Thanks! :D

Sounds interesting. I wish my parents had money to burn when I was at home. When my Da was in Japan (10 years ago), he said everything was automated. The Japs would have a small lift in their apartment that would put their belongings into storage automatically. Everything was remote-controlable, even the microwave.

Have you considered moving to Japan? :p

toilet technology in japan is the best, the whole bum washing, seat lifting, seat heating, seat cleaning, urine checking etcetc

ahhh

o yeah and automated bath is great. theres no taps, you just type in what temp and amount of hot water and it tells you when its ready. it also keeps it at that temp untill the automated thing is turned off.

ahh i love japan same about the earth quakes though

I've not seen a modern Tokyo skyscraper collapse from earthquakes yet. It's a minor issue in all fairness to you! :p
