Hi,

My 1TB drive in my gaming build is 99% full. Therefore it is time to build a file server.

What would people suggest for an extremely energy effiecient system?

The file server wouldnt need to transcode or play any form of games at all. It won't need to run bloaty windows let alone any form of GUI as I will run Debian without a desktop environment.

I was thinking some form AMD single core or mega efficient dual core with a mini-itx board with around 6x Sata ports.

Is there a mini-itx case that can take 4-6 3.5"HDD?

I did buy my dad a HP Microserver a couple of years ago but alas new models seem to beefy i3 based systems at twice the price and no cash back :(

Thanks guys, speedy I will look at the NAS route, maybe it would be the same cost, I have found a HP Microserver at a competitor but I am not sure if there is an upper limit on hdd size.

I will investigate tonight.
