Spec me an epic game

Epic = X3 Terran Conflict, you can happily play this for months and months. Depends if you like this sort of game and its quite tough for newbies.

Left 4 Dead

What's epic about it? Apart from nothing at all?

Depends on your definition of epic I suppose. Taking into consideration how long a campaign takes on the harder difficulties, it's re-playability owing to the AI director and how it's quite an impressive game compared to other co-op titles then I'd say it qualifies as epic.

NWN2 with expantion, will give you a huge epic game to play all the way through, and by the time your finished another expantion will prob be out lol.

50 hours? :) it's a decent game, and it's very replayable, but that doesn't make it epic. It's a small replayable game, more of a dirty limerick than an epic :D

"1: of, relating to, or having the characteristics of an epic <an epic poem>
2 a: extending beyond the usual or ordinary especially in size or scope <his genius was epic — Times Literary Supplement> b: heroic"

The gameplay ? what's epic about an rpg ?

The scope, story, setting, characterisation and advancement. Not every RPG gets it right. But Lost Oddysey, Baldurs Gate, FF7, Xenogears, Diablo to name a few could be described as being epic.

I would definitely recommend the OP give Titan Quest a try btw. I wouldn't call it epic, but a great game nontheless.

Well as far as I am concerned rpg's are boring plod along clicky borefests the only one that has ever grabbed me was fallout 3.

Even all those years ago diablo and baldurs gate and planescape torment were boring to me.

And don't even get me started on KOTOR that epic plodding click fest, who doesn't click past cut scenes and long winded text tell me that.

Whilst I think the witcher is a decent ish game this review kind of sums up most rpgs.

Ah well. RPG's aren't for everyone.

I don't understand why you keep trying them though, and have been for the past..what.. 10 years? - even when you don't like them. Seems a bit odd, eh?

Massive stories, scale of game, length of game. There's no way I can say this without sounding like a ****, but what the heck, I really wonder if some people in this thread have any idea what epic actually means. It seems that it's just being used as a synonym for "great". L4D's gameplay is good but gameplay has no size, no scale, it fundamentally makes no sense at all to call it "epic". Would you say a game has extra large gameplay? Of course not. Epic doesn't mean good, in fact it has no bearing on quality at all.

Forged Alliance
Company of Heroes
In both of these games the battles just do not get any more EPIC

However from your description of epic I think you mean EPIC as in long, so I think an RPG is definitely what your looking for...sadly appart from KotoR and FF7 I haven't played anymore.

Mass Effect would be the only thing to spring to mind, but I heard people say it was far to quick!

Another vote for Mass Effect.

Is it short? Perhaps if you rush through the main quest without immersing yourself in some of the side missions. I really enjoyed it and like the way the story built up and I certainly think it is epic.. cant wait for more installments.
