Hey all, im after a biggish car for my family. I've got a lexus is220d which is far too small and becoming annoying on holidays not fitting things in.

Im after preferably a petrol estate or mpv. We do a maximum of 10k a year, it will be our only car. Willing to go upto 10k. Low miles (40k and below). It will be doing a daily 10mile round trip for the missus work. Nothing french or vauxhall please.

Things i have in mind are honda accord estate, c max, s max, mondeo/focus estate.

Any others worth a look? Im well out the loop of decent cars so im at your mercy.

I found the Toyota Avensis estate a nice car when I drove it. It's not fast or exciting but it sounds like you're after a really good family car, and that's exactly what the avensis is.

Ahh, good shouts on the skoda and volvo.

I want space, reasonable to run, abit of power and no tractor engine. Been in diesels for 10 years, i want a change.

Octavia Estate may fit the bill as it has a large boot relative to the overall size of the car.
You can get a 2012 in Elegance trim for under £10k although bear in mind the current model came in 2013 so may prefer to spend less and get something a bit older. May be worth defining what you mean by "abit of power" as this could rule out non vRS models which would put it out of budget on your mileage restriction. Unfortunately the 1.4TSI in the older models is less powerful than current model.

Has anyone used or know of anyone to use available car? Im struggling like mad to find a petrol titanium c max. Sandicliff dont have 1 and evans halshaw have 3 but want £200 to bring one 80mile to Leicester! If i buy the £200 will be deducted off the price but if not i wont get it back.

Available car have 3, 1 of which has done less than 5000 mile and its only 15 mile for me.

We bought a Fiesta 1.2 from available car no problems, and has been running for 6 years with only minor faults. No problems here and I assume from the same one you are looking at as I am in Leicester too :p

You might find it isn't big enough - they're just a Focus sized car on stilts really, though a bit wider if you're trying to get more than one car seat in the back.

If you want a 4x4 type motor, try the CRV. Tbh even if you have an estate it will still be too small, our A4 avant can still get filled to the brim with crap, im at the point where i have a top box on it aswell now!

Basically the more space you give to a woman, the more she will fill it full of crap :p

Tried a c max and found it abit small for how big the car is outside. I'm defo leaning towards a qashqai. Trying a 1.6 petrol after work, though from the internet its underpowered. I did actually start and sit in a 1.5 dci and was amazed at how quiet it was and no wobbling of gear nobs on idle!

I was set on a petrol but i'm going to try both just to make sure. I actually like the qashqai+2 quite a lot, all that room will be much appreciated!

I'm not in a rush though, i dont mind if i dont find anything in the next few months to be honest. I want to try a few.

So only a c max and more than likely s max as not sure on looks ticked off the list so far. I was adamant on not getting a vauxhall as i and a few i know have just had endless trouble with them but a lad at work has an astra gtc and the quality has come up in leaps and bounds inside, and they must have faith in the mechanical side as they do a crazy long warranty (100,000 mile i think).

Anyway, qashqais tomorrow then maybe volvos.

Aye honda crv's are great. My parents drive down to Spain all the time in theirs. My dad and I took it to their house in Spain with two shower enclosures, two shower trays, two sinks and two toilets inside.
