Looking for recommendations that won’t burn my house down so something ideally decent and branded hence not buying the first cheap one I find on Amazon or eBay

First phev so no idea who is and isn’t well regarded

For a transit phev that can charge at a max of 16amps plugging into a 3 pin domestic plug

Granny chargers are limited to 8 or 10A due to them being a continuous load.. That is all you will get out of a normal 3 pin socket.

What you want is a 16A or even 32A commando socket to type 2 and get a proper commando socket fitted responsibly at home.

Watching this one with interest as I'll most likely be needing one myself in a couple of weeks.

Looks like you can pay between £79 at Amazon to £250+ at a dedicated EV supplier.

The Transit PHEVs only have a fairly tiny battery anyway, it'll probably charge in 5 or 6 hours off a 2.3kW charger, not sure it'd be worth bothering with a commando socket install just to reduce that to 2 or 3 hours.

Plus a standard 3pin might be more useful for nabbing at bit of charge at work through the window or something :p

I bought the Masterplug one from Screwfix. It has been perfect for 2+years. I figured better than a no-name that might burn the house down although I am under no illusions it's probably a rebadged China special.

Cheers for that

My company so I pay the leccy bills

Old man’s a spark so not a hassle to change the plug

If your old man is a spark just get a proper EV charger. You can get a PodPoint Pro from eBay for like 300 quid.
I'd go this route if you can get the job done properly without having to pay a fortune.

I'd prefer to get a type 2 7kWh jobbie even though I'll only have a 13kWh battery to charge. Problem is I'll need a new garage consumer unit as a minimum and most likely a beefier supply cable to the garage and I'll never see that cash back.

Seeing as I've massively compromised on the car I'll be driving to whittle down that BIK I don't want to start eating into that cash :p
