as title says really, was contemplating using the q6600 to build a gaming rig for a friend, but thought it might be best to go i5, anyone got any ideas on cpu and motherboard?

will £150 be enough for both of them (second hand maybe)

The cheapest bundle comes in at almost £370 im afraid so might be better going second hand. Don't forget you need to factor in RAM and decent CPU cooler if you want to Overclock (and I would suggest you do) :)

it doesn't have to be the best i5 rig, probably a midrange i5 rig that i would be able to game with, basically something better than a q6600

Ram i already have, just need the cpu mobo and the cooler.

i don't mind second hand, but don't see much on the MM :(

is the amd going to be good at overclocking and gaming? again compaired to a Q6600?

Hi there,

You mention you want better gaming performance than the Q6600, may I ask what GPU is being used with this system and is the Q6600 overclocked?

If you already have a Q6600 to hand - it is a pretty great gaming CPU, especially if you give it a clock. If your budget is low then it will mean you can save money on the CPU and invest more in the graphics card.

thanks for the input guys, the q6600 i have is a very good clocker, i think i will stick with that and invest in a better gpu.
