Requirements.

i7 920 base with the ability to overclock to 3.8ghz

The Asus P6T seems to be a popular choice but what RAM will I need for the overclock... Not sure if it can be done on air.

Also a nice case to house it in is a must.

A few SSDs in RAID0 ? Or maybe SATA drives for the OS. Secondary drive 1Tb for storage.

Watercooling ? Maybe a swiftech kit or can the overclock be done on air.

Come on dream me up a sweet system.

Edit : Budget £1500 but I think the gfx card wil push it over

Sorry to bump this ... Any help or do I have to trawl through all the threads ?

Cheers ps The 500 squid ocuk i7 deal looks attractive - will have to check the RAM and mobo out first.

Bit over but still... :>

Thanks guys... overall two similar systems with hard drive bottlenecks.

I did a cart that came to 2k - Thinking whether I should drop the raptors in RAID0 and get a SAS card and disks. What do you guys think ? This will take it to 2.5K and I'll stop there

Here's what I've got...

Any reservations or should I swap SAS for SSD which tbh I think will be slower

????? Higher IO ops on SAS.. I'm sure I'll notice it when unraring a large file whilst kicking off a quickpar from the same partition. Crazy thing to do but is a good test.

Overall yes very little difference for simple loading.
