i want to record my xbox 360 gaming in as high a quality as possible. currently my xbox uses HD component cables, and my TV only goes up to 720p. so the ability to record a 1080p input and downscale the output to 720p would be great. my parents do have a TV that goes up to 1080p, but its unlikely i will use this for my recording.

the budget is ~£150, but obviously less would be nice. i am looking for quality over price. the two cards im looking at are the Hauppauge colossus and the black magic intensity pro

if anyone could give their input or advice to my decision that would be great, because i have very little idea which will be best.

the specs of my computer are in my sig

Hauppauge don't sell a device that can record in 1080p. The Collossus only records up to 1080i. I'm not sure about downscaling the output from the Capture card into your TV. As far as I know you would just have to record in 720p. However I would recommend the Intensity Pro as it has much more functionality. The recording program is much more user friendly and if you ever wanted to do a live stream over Justin.TV or somewhere similar, you can with the intensity pro while you can't with Hauppauge products.

If you want to see what quailty the Black Magic Pro gives you i'm sure Distorted won't mind me linking you to his youtube page:

I've got an intensity shuttle (kind of - getting a replacement sent out as we speak) and its great - software is the same as the pro.

thanks for the info. the black magic intensity pro is looking to be the strong favourite. now if only i could find someone who has recorded a game with graphics from this decade with it
