Spec me an ISP!

BT is better.

What about sky's 38mb? I'm guessing that's basically the same as BT's 38mb? (which they've now upgraded to 52)

Edit: I guess the only time the absolute speed is going to be important is when I'm sitting waiting for a game to DL or patch, I'm more concerned with it being reliable and responsive for gaming/streaming

BT and Sky will 'feel' the same, neither do any traffic shaping. It will come down to cost and a package as a whole. BT do have some good cashback deals via the usual sites as well as Sainbury's credit cards etc. But BT's customer service is worse than Sky's.

Sorted :)

Went for sky fibre in the end, as they were able to half the line rental and knock £10 off the TV as well, probably could have gotten better if I'd waited till we were out of the TV contract, but getting fed up with virgin being slow!

Jeez, Virgin really don't want to let you go! No matter how many times I said I wanted to cancel "oh but we can do you a better deal", "you'll be taking a huge performance hit", "it's like taking half the engine out of your car, you'll have half the performance" etc. etc...

Got there in the end, but I'm expecting a call back with a "better offer" tomorrow >_<

We had been with them on the highest broadband package since 2006 and they never really did a great deal to persuade us to stay. Although, the first thing we said on the phone when cancelling was "We don't care about the price, all we want is a stable internet connection and speed" Dropping to 10-20MB every evening with high fluctuating latencies is not what I wanted.

After that they only phoned once and we already had BT Infinity 2 installed. Offered us 2 free months then went back on their word and cut us off on the end date anyway. Then sent us a plastic bag for the Modem lol.

I hope you get what you want from SKY :). I did a lot of research on Openreach options before moving and even though I want more speed (currently 60ish MB) mainly due to the distance, one thing I am happy with is the consistent speeds.

The best connection I've used is probably Virgin cable (no phone line needed). But obviously they aren't expending the cable infrastructure any more, so if you can't get it you never will. Fibre is a bit more flaky no matter who you choose :/
