Spec me an ITX gaming system?

It looks like the case also comes with a motherboard? If so I could buy the CPU and RAM literately, which would save me £130
 
No way is 300w able to power all of that! Perhaps maybe a 5670 would be fine. Although from the reviews I'm reading, if the PSU was not the problem then you can fit a 5870 inside.

What's your overall budget and how small do you want the case size to be?
 
Case has to be that small or similiar tbh, I don't want to waste space. So that means 1 HDD cage, and no more than 2 PCI slots on the case.

I want to get the most gaming power I can in that form factor with no more than £400
 
Such a tricky build :p I'm £27 over the budget but it's the cheapest I can do it, I'm sure someone else can do a cheaper gaming ITX build :).

Would either the HD5770 or GTX460 actually fit in that case? I know both cards are relatively short but the PCI-e connectors are on the end.

Official Specs

Looking at the official specs it will accept a video card up to 180mm long (around 7 inches), IIRc this means the 460 is out and the HD5770 will technically fit (I think) but you won't be able to plug a power connector in and you lose a good inch with that.

The specs also only list one expansion port which would be an issue for both the 460 and 5770.

The Q11B would be the better case but it does add another £40 to the build.
 
I wouldn't recommend any Sandybridge builds too yet until Intel has sorted out the chipset problem.

If you swap the PSU out with this Corsair CX 430 then that would make the overall price just about £409, didn't notice you was eligible for free delivery :).

Completely right! I managed to look at the Q11 specs instead of the Q07, wondered why it said max video card length "none". I think the Palit 460 is the only one with a top mounted power connector.

Another option would be to be to look around the members market for a case. they are expensive consdiering their relative size!

This board shouldn't suffer from those issues as it only has 1x Sata II and 2x Sata III. Just use the Sata III.

Edit: well the sata II might. but in itx you only tend to have an optical drive and a HDD.

I found out my GTX 460 Cyclone fits in that case, so I'm going with this since I won't need to buy another GPU if I go this route.

Also if I go this route I can buy a PSU that's almost 50% more wattage so I'm hoping, not only can I power a GTX 460 at the very least, but that I can highly OC it too.

If this is the case I'll be very happy coz I can currently play most games I play at 2560x1440 max with a GTX 460 @ 880 Mhz
 
There is a thread over at SFFTECH which will give the OP an idea of the components which will run off a Shuttle 300W PSU.

AFAIK,an HD5770 1GB should be fine and also the Lian Li Q07 is designed for single slot cards and not those with dual slot coolers. I would look at the Lian Li Q11 if a dual slot graphics card is being used in the build.

If the OP wants to play it safe the 9800GT Green Edition is bus powered.
