SPEC me an MMORPG

WoW graphics are excellent. They're not photo realistic if that's what you mean, but they're not meant to be. The quality of the texturing and effects is brilliant.

I doubt you would find anything that beats WoW out right now, but keep an eye out on:

Age of Conan, the only one I have really read up on, looks very promising.
Warhammer Online
LOTR Online
Hellgate: London
Star Trek online (maybe)
Stargate Worlds (only mentioning it because I love Stargate)

Hi all, im in need of a new MMO

Ive done SWG
Ive done WOW (rather liked it but it stole my life)
Ive tried RF Online (waaaay to grindy)
Ive done City of Heroes/Villians

Im looking for something similiar to WOW but without the life stealing

Any options out there worth looking at

Hope there is someone out there with some help pls :)

WoW doesn't have to be life stealing. I only play around 30min a day and will hit it hard for a day every 2 weeks.

Anyway. Vanguard: Saga of Heroes is coming soon after a 4 year development cycle and it looks fantastic. Check it out

Free for 14 days, no credit card needed. You don't have to pay for the game either, its free. So are ALL the patches, content and expansions. And its only £8 a month !!!

Click me already

Vanguard beta out now isnt it? Might be of interest.

I'd advise staying away from the free ones as they are all laggy, buggy piles of rubbish.

Guild Wars isnt too bad either and has no monthly fee, it did seem quite good when i played it but WoW sucked me back in before i could get really into it.

I really want to get into EvE online, but no matter how many times I try, I always spend the trial period in my little ship mining and refining to make peanuts. It looks awesome though, definately something I would enjoy, if I could ever get out of the initial boring bit.

so you did the most boring thing EVER in any game EVER on your own (its ok in groups with TS and beer) rather than doing the most FUN part (PVE/PVP) - try running to 3JN-9 in a frig from empire!! you've nothing to lose (in real terms) so just do it!
or
give me a shout ingame, we'll take you to 0.0 and give you some PVP!

lol I guess so. I've joined random 'guilds'/corps the last couple of times that I've played, and they've usually just been out mining in an asteroid field with huge mining barges, and I'm usually sat there with my piddly little ship with crappy lasers trying to make some money :p

Dungeon Runners is coming out soon, looks a bit WoW-ish. Totally free as well (buying a subscription apparently just lets you use slightly better kit).

If you want some PvP action, Guild Wars is the one to try, mainly because you don't have to bother with the PvE part of the game AT ALL before getting stuck into the action, since PvP characters are as fkexible as PvE characters.

you still need to do some of the PVE bit to get the PVP skills etc

Thats eve online out then :o ;)

I've found Eve the opposite. Whilst I enjoy playing, and am compelled to play more... it's not the type of game that will suck me in and stop me from eating or doing anything else.

Will have been playing for 2 years in January.
