Hey Guys,

Looking for an mp3 player for the old man for his birthday, as is always buying those cheap ones from tesco and such like. So going to get him a semi decent one for about 60ish. Any ideas would be great.

The headphones are the biggest let down on these players,
get a cheapie one, a decent set of headphones and preload all his music for him.

(old people + technology = hours of your life wasted)

.

Lol, that is very true. Not the headphones its the players as most of them seem to break all the time. He is quite clued up on technology can easily put mp3s etc onto the player.

I've had a Creative one for years, and it seemed pretty good/solid to me.
(well, maybe it was until I took it apart...)

I didn't expect the sound quality to improve with better headphones, but it did.

Ipods were nicer to control though.

I may rebox mine to incorporate a proper headphone amp, I'm slightly deafer in one ear, so I need to adjust the balance a bit.

Yeah not really a big lover of ipods, but not for me lol ;)
Wouldn't call the Shuffle an iPod really though, well if you do it's a very very stripped down one :D

Anyway, pretty snazzy & if it breaks I can tell you Apple have a fantastic product replacement service.

The Sandisk Sansa C series starts at £50 and the E series at £80 ( 1Gb )
The E includes video and is very watchable. Both sounds good on supplied phones ( for an older man ) and great on decent phones :) With removeable SD memory card they're even easier to transfer music/pics/vids as you don't need to carry a cable as pretty much everyone has a card reader :D

Just had a look at the sandisc's very impressive to look at anyway. Think its between one of those or a ipod shuffle. Thanks guys ;)

Just saw SanDisk Sansa 2GB C150, for 50 notes, think its going to be that.

Not for you?

The SanDisk is a load of rubbish anyway!

Loot at Sony E00x range - or Creative Zen V if you want something under £60
Care to explain to the OP why you believe that ?

The Sandisk is head and shoulders above the Sony in all areas and the E-series is better photo/vid quality than the Creative. The C-series and the Zen-V are comparable and more to do with personal opinion on choice. I'd advice pushing to an E-series to get video, it's worth it.

Sound Quality!!!!!

Sandisk is poor in that area! Theres not even a use EQ either!

Basicly Sony and Creative have the best sound quality on the market - They only thing that stops Sony from being the best is.... sonicstage, however it is a lot beter nowdays!

Sound quality on my Samsung YP-Z5 is at least as good as on my Sony NW-E107, plus the Samsung has longer playback than it's competitors. I would have gone for the Zen V myself since I love the look of it, but not with only 15 hrs playback.

Anyway, looks like the £79.99 delivered price on the YP-Z5 has ended at that particular store.
