ok been working over xmas and decided to spend some cash. Basically I want an mp3 player (duh) but only use it for music. 1gb is fine, dont need an uber screen or anything. Smaller is good but not stupidly small like this cube things. I dont want iAnything (got it in for iPods). Looking for under £50. Just need to hear fr4om people who own soemthing that works great and has good sound quality. Some good ear phone references will also be handy :p

cant help too much with the player as im looking for one at the moment as well (up to 16gb flash)
as afar as headphones go i own some Koss KSC75 Headphones , have a look at the reviews they are amazing for such a low price (lifetime warranty), apart from leaking your music to the outside world !

Get a Creative Zen (they go from 2, 4, 8, 16, 32gb) all in flash with an SDHC slot. Their is a few problems i have with it but when you have all your music on their their is no problem (stalls sometimes when transfering music).

Also for OP, Creative Stone 1gb is pretty cheap.

The 4GB version in the forest cost under the retail price of a 1GB Shuffle... that's what swung me to buy that instead of a shuffle.

Not looked back since (and that's coming from a 2nd Gen Nano user and an iod Touch)

^ Was just about to say :)

4Gb stone is currently the best value player around imo, good little players the cost per gb is less than 25% than that of a shuffle.

just seen the price <£40!! and ordered one cheers chaps :) was thinking about a touch for the browsing but im going to get a cheap laptop instead with the rest of my crimbo/bday money

Pretty but not as good in the sound quality dept. Depends on weather you want your player to play music to the best of its abilities or look nice.:D

I'm a hi-Fi nut so I'd always choose sound quality over looks and video/ games/ organisers etc. Those kinds of features mean nothing to me when looking for a device I will use to play, primarily, music.

If you want a mixed bag that sounds good and plays videos and games, get a PSP - (I love mine :D)

With a budget then I would get a Creative ZEN (well, another :p).

Lol....Me too. I'm still using this.

Never let me down yet, although the Creative headphones died after almost 3 years of heavy use :D

Different Zen... and stock buds?! You should be ashamed :p

Ok cheers everyone, ive taken in your advice so ive got it narrowed down to:

Creative zen 8gb
iAudio D2 8GB
iAudio A3 60GB

If you have the money the sound quality on the Cowons is superior to the Creative player, I would also suggest budgeting for some heapdhones as the stock ones are rarely any good.

Another player I would consider is the 8gb Sony NWAZ818B 8gb, good sound quality, stock headphones are very good and it is only about £100. OcUK don't stock it though afaik.

Exept the iRiver I mentioned (No longer stocked at OcUK) which came with Seinnheiser as standard on the U10 I bought the missus:D

The Creative and Apple standard earphones are, put simply, crap.:D
