Spec me an online game?

I've been away from PC gaming for ages and would like to get back into it.

I'm after a new game to play, would be nice if it was online. I also wouldn't mind giving an MMO a go. (Played WoW, no interest in playing again.)

My last purchase was Bad Company 2 and I just couldn't get into it. I purchased it to try and get my self back into pc gaming, but that just didn't do it for me.

Any suggestions please? I like ANY genre except RTS.
 
Quake Live is worth a go, plus it's free. Lord of the Rings Online has recently gone "free" and is also worth a look if you fancy a MMO (if you do, start on the Laurelin server, there's quite a few OcUK folks on there... I think). There's also Alien Swarm which is a free top-down shooter from Valve and is a good laugh - see the Alien Swarm thread for more info. Mainly suggesting free games here so you don't waste any money :)
 
I am going to get shot down in flames for this as a first post but try COD 4 the single player is one of the best FPS i have ever played. The multiplayer is also fun but many dont like it due to the lack of dedicated servers but tbh i have never had any problems with it.

Thanks for all the replys guys and welcome to the forum SPG.

I might give BC2 another go. But I remember it needed a lot of fiddling about last time, getting it running in certain DX modes, fiddling the FOV about etc.

Should I be able to run it now without lowering it a DX Mode?
