Hi, im wondering if there are any newish (last 12 months?) RPG's out that are any good? im after a new one as i am getting a little board of my other games and i miss the likes of baldurs gate etc. so are there any new RPG's out there worth playing?

The Witcher is the only decent one to be out the last 12 months, although its not similar to BG2 if that's what you're after.

The Temple of Elemental Evil still looks really good. And loads of bugs have been fixed in the circle of 8 community patch. And it can be made to do widescreen resolutions too.

There's Mass Effect that's coming out soon for the PC, even though it's been on the Xbox 360 for a while. The Witcher is brilliant, although there's an enhanced edition out next month so I'd wait for that before starting to play it.

Could always try oblivion if your tired of heavy rpg's, and if you've played baulders gate I assume you've played the fallout games?

Neverwinter Nights (+ expansion packs)?
Neverwinter Nights 2 is also cool, not as good as the first but good enough for a decent play - just the controls/cameras are abit iffy in my books.

Temple of Elemental Evil is still an awesome game, gotta borrow it off a mate of mine and have another game on it :)

NWN2 has been patched up LOADS, and is a decent game, and I've been enjoying the Mask of the Betrayer expansion.

But The Witcher is taking up all my time at the moment, LOVE IT!

Unless they've patched the story to be less clichéd and the voice acting to be less annoying I'm not going to bite on NWN2 :p

im hearing mixed things about this witcher, whats the battles in it like? what do you do when fighting?

It's kinda like WOW, but you have 3 different battle styles (strong, quick, group) and 2 different witcher weapons (normal swords for animals/humans, silver swords for monsters).

You click to initiate the attack, then when the sword icon gets flames, click again to continue a combo, miss-time it, and you have to start he combo from scratch. As you progress, you get more combos.

I find it perfectly fine.

So whats it like gameplay wish then compared to baldurs gate? do you get +1 maces etc, spells?

Weapons can be forged or found, but the calculations arent based on D&D, so +2 swords don't exist.

You have spells (signs), and can brew potions and create bombs.

As you level up, you get to purchase talents, in a similar way to the skill trees in WOW. You can focus on your signs, beef up your attributes, pick special abilities, or improve you combat techniques.

It's also 3rd-person meets 1st-person, as the camera angel is fixed by your shoulder. You can also choose to place in more of a Bladur's Gate way if you want, as the engine is the same one that NWN2 uses.

If you play it on hard it's more involving, especially as you have to watch your attacks since there's no flame icon anymore :)

There is a demo available for the witcher which would show you the sword combat quite clearly. But like was said above, there is a lot more to it than just sword clicking.
You also have a range of spells which you can spend skill points on to refine how you like.
There are bombs you can use and there is a large range of potions you can brew which all have different effects on how you perform in fights.

Well worth a go this game, but if you are buying it wait about 1 month until the enhanced version is released!
